Star — Cambridge Reading Adventures (Yellow Band)

A short, fully decodable story for children in the early-blending stage of phonics. The Cambridge Reading Adventures Yellow Band is the second step of the series, designed for children who already know their initial sounds and are starting to read simple sentences.

Star uses a controlled vocabulary of short, blendable words plus a small set of common sight words. The story has a clear narrative arc — something children at this stage rarely get from pure phonics workbooks — which keeps the reading session feeling like a story rather than a drill.

Best for ages 5–6, or any child who has finished First Sounds–level material and is building reading stamina. Part of the Cambridge banded reading scheme used in many UK and international schools.
